Background
and Credentials
The scope of your
project, the level of architectural knowledge required and your budget are
all factors that will help determine what sort of design trade
professional is most appropriate for you.
-
A decorator
works with the surface aspects of interiors. Many have had formal
training and years of experience guiding the choice and application of
paint finishes, fabric, furnishings, flooring, carpeting and lighting.
No license is required to use the title of decorator.
-
An interior
designer is trained in space planning and has the knowledge to
collaborate with architects and contractors. An interior designer can
renovate a kitchen, design built-in shelving, remove walls, etc. In
many states, interior designers must pass a strict exam and be
licensed.
The combination of my
formal education, at Fox Valley Technical School, work experience, over
the last 32+ years (including 23+ years in my own business) and professional
affiliations with the ASID (Allied Practitioner) (The American Society Of
Interior Designers) and WIA (Wisconsin Innkeepers Assoc) have fostered a
recognized expertise in the design industry. As of January 1997, I earned
the recognition of "Wisconsin Registered Interior Designer".
It is through my
continued education and practical experience that I am qualified to advise
my clients not only through the creative process of design, but also to
see that the health, safety and welfare aspects of the job are realized.
Retail product sales, product installation, commercial/residential design
and client satisfaction are central elements to my scope of services. The
ability to capture my clients' needs and personality in tasteful
application of color and texture results in superior individualized
design. In May of 1998, a home that I designed was featured in Log Home
Illustrated.
